New Delhi, Dec 22: Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were severely affected on Sunday due to low visibility conditions caused by dense fog, leading to the cancellation of 97 flights and delays to over 200 others.

An official said that 48 arriving flights and 49 departures were cancelled at the Delhi airport. As per the latest data available on flight tracking website Flightradar24, more than 200 flights were delayed, with the average departure delay pegged at around 23 minutes.

In a post on social media platform X around noon, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which operates IGIA, stated that airport operations were running smoothly despite the prevailing weather conditions.

IGIA is the country’s largest airport and generally handles around 1,300 flights on a daily basis.

Flight services have been witnessing repeated disruptions over the past several days at Delhi and several other airports across north India owing to persistent dense fog conditions.
