Mangaluru: Man arrested for spreading inflammatory Instagram posts on hotel murder case

Mangaluru, Dec 18: Mangaluru city police have arrested Abhishek M, 23, son of Muralidhar, of Katipalya, here, for allegedly spreading provocative messages on the Instagram page mr_a_titude.

The case, registered at Bajpe police station on May 8, 2025 under Sections 353(1)(c), 353(2), 56, 57, and 189 of the Indian Penal Code, stemmed from posts that accused the police of colluding with criminals linked to a murder at Hotel Nisarga.

The posts claimed, “Police are serving the accused meals at Hotel Nisarga and are colluding with criminals, while the public’s trust in law enforcement is being eroded.”

 

Abhishek has a prior criminal record, with multiple cases registered at Surathkal and Kapu police stations, including an attempted murder case (Surathkal PS Case No. 11/2021), an assault case (Surathkal PS Case No. 137/2021), a murder case (Surathkal PS Case No. 62/2022), and a robbery case (Kapu PS Case No. 62/2024).

Officers of the CEN crime police station traced the accused using technical evidence, effected his arrest, and produced him before the court. The case will continue to be investigated by the CEN crime police station, Mangaluru.

Police officials emphasised, “Our department remains fully committed to ensuring public safety. We will take strict action against anyone attempting to incite unrest or spread misleading information.”
