Udupi, Dec 17: Urging smoother travel for thousands of devotees from the coastal and Malnad regions, Member of Parliament Kota Srinivas Poojary has appealed to union civil aviation minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu to introduce a direct flight service between Mangaluru International Airport and Tirupati.

Speaking to the minister, Poojary highlighted that lacs of devotees from Udupi, Mangaluru, the Malnad region and the border district of Kasaragod undertake journeys to Tirupati for the darshan of Lord Venkateshwara (Tirupati Thimmappa) every year.

“The absence of direct flights causes considerable inconvenience for passengers,” he said, urging the ministry to consider launching a non-stop service from Mangaluru to Tirupati.

Responding positively, the union civil aviation minister reportedly assured that the request would be examined at the earliest and that appropriate action would be taken to facilitate the service.

Dr C N Manjunath, MP representing Bengaluru Rural constituency, was also present during the meeting.
