Udupi, Dec 16: Udupi Town police have successfully recovered and returned 60 lost mobile phones to their rightful owners. The recovered devices are collectively valued at Rs 8,83,400.

The beneficiaries had earlier registered complaints on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal after losing their mobile phones. These complaints were subsequently forwarded to the Udupi Town Police Station for investigation.

Acting on the complaints, the police traced the lost mobile phones within a span of three months.

After seizing the devices and completing the necessary verification procedures, the mobiles were formally handed over to their owners at the Udupi Town police station.

Several recipients, who had purchased their phones through EMIs after considerable financial effort, expressed immense relief and happiness. Many thanked the police personnel for their diligent work, stating that they had almost lost hope of recovering their devices.

Deputy superintendent of police Prabhu DT advised the public not to panic in the event of losing a mobile phone and urged them to promptly register a complaint on the CEIR portal. He noted that there has been a rise in mobile theft and loss complaints registered through the CEIR portal this year and emphasised that timely reporting greatly helps in recovery.
