Mangaluru: Worker killed as mound collapses during retaining wall work

Mangaluru, Dec 16: A labourer was killed after a mound collapsed during construction work near Kallapu Sevanthiguttu in Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city.

The deceased has been identified as Balappa (45), a resident of Hungund taluk. The incident occurred while five labourers were engaged in retaining wall construction at a private property. During the work, a JCB was being used to excavate the mound when it suddenly caved in.

Balappa, who was holding mortar and carrying out work at the site, was buried under the soil following the sudden collapse. He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

Ullal police rushed to the spot and have taken up an investigation into the incident.
