Mumbai, Dec 15: In a tragic incident on the Western Express Highway early Sunday, two men riding a motorcycle were killed after being run over by a truck in Dahisar (E). The victims, Zahir Amlani and his friend Irshad Hussain, were commuting northbound near the Dahisar metro station around 1:40 am when the accident occurred. Amlani was riding while Hussain was seated pillion.
Both sustained severe head injuries and were rushed to a hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. Following the crash, the truck driver fled the scene. An FIR was lodged against him for negligence and rash driving.

Police investigations revealed that the nearest surveillance camera was about 100 meters away and offered unclear footage. Officers then examined footage from cameras at the Dahisar check naka, identifying two suspicious vehicles. The truck, which had reached a village in Gujarat, was tracked down using this evidence. Bloodstains on the truck’s tyres confirmed its involvement. Salman Khan, the truck driver, was arrested within 24 hours. He told police that he heard a sound when the truck hit the motorcycle but claimed he was unaware of the fatalities.
According to Amlani’s mother, Nazneen, her son had planned to return home from his workplace in Bangur Nagar, Goregaon (W) around 9 pm on Saturday. When he did not arrive, she called him around 11 pm, and he informed her that he was on his way home with Hussain.
The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the swift police action has brought the accused to justice.
