Senior Congress MLA, former minister Shamanur Shivashankarappa passes away at 94

Senior Congress MLA and former minister Shamanur Shivashankarappa, who was also the national president of the Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha, passed away on Sunday at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was 94.

Shivashankarappa, who had been suffering from age-related ailments, was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit for the past month. Despite efforts by doctors, his condition did not improve, and he breathed his last at the hospital.

At 94, Shamanur Shivashankarappa was regarded as one of the senior-most serving legislators in the country.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had recently visited the hospital and enquired about his health condition with the doctors. Prayers had also been offered by his supporters in Davanagere for his recovery. However, he passed away on Sunday, leaving the state in mourning.

Shamanur Shivashankarappa was born on June 16, 1931, in Davanagere district to Shamanur Kallappa and Shamanur Savitramma.

He is survived by his wife Parvathamma, daughters Dr Manjula Shivashankar, Sudha Patil, Dr Shailaja Bhattacharya and Meena, sons S S Bakkesh, S S Ganesh and S S Mallikarjun, and a large number of relatives and well-wishers.
