New Delhi, Dec 14: President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday called for active public participation in energy conservation, commending the government’s green initiatives and noting that India has already met its clean energy targets ahead of schedule.
Speaking at an event marking National Energy Conservation Day, President Murmu emphasized the importance of making energy efficiency a way of life to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future. She urged engaging children and youth in environmental efforts, stating, “For the success of India's Energy Transition, the participation of every sector and citizen is essential. Bringing energy efficiency to all sectors, behavioural change is most important.”

At the event, she presented the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025 to institutions and prizes from the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation to schoolchildren.
Highlighting government efforts, President Murmu said, “Through energy efficiency measures in 2023-24, 53.60 million tonnes of oil equivalent energy have been saved, promoting economic savings and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.” She added that India’s early fulfillment of clean energy commitments marks a significant milestone in the nation’s push toward energy efficiency and decarbonization.
She also pointed to the National Green Hydrogen Mission, noting that renewable-energy-based Green Hydrogen production aims to make India a global hub and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
President Murmu stressed that access to clean, affordable energy empowers communities, boosts local economies, and fosters overall development. On the international stage, she said India’s achievements in clean energy have strengthened global climate action and contributed to sustainable development and net-zero goals.
