Udupi: National Lok Adalat settles 65,473 cases, Rs 19.68 crore compensation ordered in a day

Udupi, Dec 14: Under the direction of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bengaluru, National Lok Adalat was organised on Saturday, December 13 across various courts in Udupi district, including Udupi, Kundapura, Karkala, and Byndoor.

A total of 65,473 cases were resolved in a single day, the Chief District and Sessions Judge, who also chairs the District Legal Services Authority, announced.

The cases disposed of on Saturday comprised 24 compoundable criminal cases, 343 cheque dishonour cases, 10 bank and financial recovery cases, 102 motor vehicle compensation cases, 247 civil cases, 3,002 other criminal cases, 1 labour dispute, and 61,744 pre-litigation cases. Through amicable settlements, a total compensation amount of Rs 19.68 crore was also ordered, according to Kiran S. Gangannavar.

The press release stated that the event was successfully conducted with the full cooperation of the judiciary, the District Legal Services Authority, Taluk Legal Services Committees, Bar Associations of Udupi, Kundapura, Karkala, Byndoor, and Brahmavar, litigation departments, government disputes departments, the police, revenue department, mining and geology department, insurance companies, banks, litigants, and other government agencies.
