Jammu, Dec 13: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Friday foiled an infiltration attempt from across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Pargwal sector of Jammu and Kashmir and detained a militant along with arms and ammunition, officials said.
The detained individual was identified as Abdul Khaliq, a resident of the Darhal area in Rajouri district, who is suspected to have links with the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad. Police sources said Khaliq had crossed over to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in 2021 and was attempting to re-enter Indian territory when he was apprehended.

An MP5 rifle, a magazine with 10 rounds, and an empty drum magazine were seized from his possession. Officials said BSF troops had noticed suspicious movement along the border two days ago and intensified vigil and patrolling along the barbed-wire fence. The militant was intercepted as he crossed over to the Indian side and was later handed over to the police for further investigation.
The foiled infiltration comes amid heightened counter-terror measures by the Army, BSF and police across Jammu province, following intelligence inputs indicating that Pakistan has reactivated a large number of terrorist launch pads along the International Border and the LoC. Earlier this month, BSF Deputy Inspector General Vikram Kunwar had stated that more than 70 terror launch pads were active across the border, including around 12 near the International Border in Pakistan’s Sialkot and Zafarwal areas and about 60 across the LoC opposite Jammu.
In a related development, the General Officer Commanding of the White Knight Corps visited areas in Rajouri district to review the security situation and operational preparedness of troops deployed for counterinsurgency operations. The visit focused on assessing ground readiness, coordination mechanisms and the overall operational posture.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Paramvir Singh interacted with Village Defence Groups (VDGs) at Arnas, reviewing their deployment, weapon-handling skills and firing proficiency. He stressed the need to enhance accuracy, operational readiness and adherence to standard operating procedures to effectively counter any suspicious activity in the region.
