Mangaluru: Court sentences five accused to rigorous imprisonment in 2022 MDMA trafficking case

Mangaluru, Dec 6: In a major development in the 2022 MDMA trafficking case, a Mangaluru court on Saturday December 6 pronounced strict punishment for five accused who were arrested for transporting MDMA from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. The verdict delivers severe sentences to all five individuals involved.

The incident dates back to June 2022, when five individuals were apprehended for transporting MDMA from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. Those convicted include Sudan national Lual Daniel Justin Boulou alias Danny (25), who had supplied the MDMA; Mohammed Rameez (24) of Uppala in Kasargod; Mohiddin Rashid (24) of Shiriya in Kasargod; Abdul Raouf (35) of Uppala Mulinja; and Sabitha alias Chinchu (25) from Ooty, Tamil Nadu.

During the hearing held on Saturday), government prosecutor Judith Olga Margaret Crasta presented arguments on behalf of the state. Following the submissions, principal district and sessions court Judge Basavaraj delivered the judgment.

As per the court order, Lual Daniel, Rashid, and Sabitha have been sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1.5 lac each, Rameez has been awarded 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.45 lac, and Abdul Raouf has been sentenced to 13 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.35 lac.
