Kodagu, Dec 2: In a heart-warming incident that has won widespread appreciation, a pet dog named ‘Oreo’ helped reunite a two-year-old girl with her mother after the child went missing in a dark coffee estate in Kodagu for nearly two days.
The incident took place at Kongana village in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu district. On Saturday evening, a two-year-old girl went missing while playing in a coffee estate. Despite desperate searches by her parents, the child could not be found. On Sunday morning, the pet dog tracked her down deep inside the estate.

The parents, Sunil and Nagini, were working in the estate owned by Shariganapati. After lunch, Nagini was checking her mobile phone and failed to notice the child wandering off. By evening, when she began searching, the toddler was nowhere to be found. Local residents and forest department personnel joined the search but found no trace on the first night.
Pet dogs were brought in to assist the search operation along with locals and forest officials. ‘Oreo’, a pet dog belonging to Anil Kalappa, eventually located the child in the middle of the coffee estate.
After spending the entire night in the darkness of the estate, the toddler was finally reunited with her mother, thanks to Oreo. The dog's effort has been widely appreciated by the community.
