Mangalore University intercollegiate handball tournament for women 2025- 26 held in Karkala

Karkala, Dec 2: A day-long Mangalore University level intercollegiate handball tournament for women was organized by Manjunatha Pai Memorial Government First Grade College, Karkala on December 2. The tournament was inaugurated by MLA Sunil V Kumar by lighting the lamp and symbolically initiating the game.

In his address to the students, Sunil V Kumar emphasized the role of sports in building a resilient mind and body. Sports and academics are to be given equal importance as they build the character of the student. He also made a special note of 2% sports quota reserved in recruitments for various government jobs thereby encouraging the youth to pursue a career in sports. MLA Sunil V Kumar congratulated and appreciated the college principal and staff for organizing and hosting the university level tournament.

Guest of honour, Pramal Kumar, endorsed the words of chief guest and that there is need to bring about a revolution Swasth Bharat on similar grounds of Swach Bharat. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he said that students are the architect of their life and it is crucial to identify or engage in one particular activity of passion that guides and directs their lives towards higher realization and self-actualization.

Director of physical education of Mangalore University, Dr Gerald Santhosh D’Souza, presented a host of examples of students excelling in both academics and sports. He also appreciated the college for hosting the tournament.

Dr. Suresh Rai K, principal, reminisced the support extended by the college development committee president and MLA V Sunil Kumar in college activities and infrastructural development which has aided in the growth and development of the institution.

Mangalore University match observer, Rathnakar Putraya, Alumni Association sports secretary Sunil Kamath, IQAC coordinator Vinay M S and physical education director, Dr Jayabharathi A marked their gracious presence on the occasion.

The inaugural programme was compered by Akshatha Rao. Jyothi L J extended the welcome speech and physical education director, Dr Jayabharathi proposed the vote of thanks.
