Suniel Shetty opens up on declining south film roles; says offers mostly for negative characters

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 28: Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, speaking at the Lallantop Adda 2025 event in Delhi, shared the reason behind his limited appearances in South Indian films. The actor revealed that while he regularly receives offers, most of them are for antagonist roles — something he prefers to avoid.

“I do get offers from the South, but unfortunately, most of them are negative characters. They want Hindi heroes to appear powerful in antagonistic roles because it works on screen and with audiences. That is something I don’t like,” Suniel said.

Reflecting on his career choices, the actor said his cameo in the 2025 Tulu film Jai was a conscious decision to support regional cinema rather than a strategic career move. He also recalled working in a Tamil film with superstar Rajinikanth, calling it a personal milestone.

“I did a film with Rajini sir because I wanted to tick that box. Recently, I did a small Tulu film just to encourage the industry. Today, there is no language barrier — if content is good, it crosses all boundaries,” he added.

Upcoming Projects

Suniel Shetty was last seen in the action series Hunter 2. He will next appear in the comedy entertainer Welcome to the Jungle, alongside Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon and Lara Dutta.

He is also part of Hera Pheri 3, the much-awaited instalment in the iconic comedy franchise, with shooting expected to begin in early 2026.
