Belthangady: Dharmasthala Temple gold heist suspects apprehended, Rs 5.32 lac jewellery recovered

Belthangady, Nov 26: Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a gold jewellery theft at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Temple, recovering 76 grams of gold jewellery valued at Rs 5,32,000.

The original theft occurred on May 3, 2025, when a visitor named Latha had her bag containing 97 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 6,79,000 stolen during her temple visit. The incident was registered at Dharmasthala police station under case No. 17-2025, Section 303(2) BNS 2023.

During the investigation, authorities received intelligence that the accused planned another theft. Acting swiftly, the Dharmasthala police intercepted the suspects near Dwarka on November 23, 2025.

 

The accused were identified as B B Jaan (59) of Hubballi and her daughter Arathi, also known as Masaabi/Asma (34). They were presented before a competent court and taken into police custody for further interrogation.

A subsequent search at the Hubballi residence of the accused led to the recovery of 76 grams of gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 5,32,000.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Belthangady sub-divisional DySP Rohini C K, with a team led by circle inspector B G Subbapur Math.

Key officers involved included deputy superintendent of police Samarth R Ganigere, head constables Rajesh, Prashanth and Sandeep, police constables Mallikarjun, Shashikumar and Manjunath Patil, MHC Pramodini and Sunita, MPIC Soubhagya, Deepa, and Usha.

Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on evidence recovered.

A spokesperson stated, “Swift action and timely intelligence were key to apprehending the suspects and recovering the stolen valuables, preventing further crime.”
