Kasargod, Nov 26: A remand prisoner lodged at the Kasaragod sub-jail died under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday morning, prompting his family to level serious allegations of foul play.
The deceased, Mubashir, 30, a resident of Deli, was found in a semi-conscious state inside the sub-jail at dawn. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Kasaragod, but, according to officials, he “failed to respond to treatment” and was declared dead shortly afterward. His body has been moved to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital for a full post-mortem examination, and the exact cause of death remains undetermined.

His family, however, insists that the circumstances do not add up.“There was absolutely no health problem when we met him on Monday and Tuesday,” relatives said, calling the sudden death “deeply suspicious” and demanding a transparent investigation.
Mubashir had been arrested on November 5 in connection with a POCSO case registered in 2016. Having recently returned from abroad two months earlier, he was taken into custody about three weeks ago and produced before court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
With questions mounting over how a seemingly healthy young man collapsed without warning, the incident has triggered concern and calls for a thorough probe into the events leading to his death.
