Udupi, Nov 24: MLA Yashpal Suvarna has appealed to the Udupi deputy commissioner to declare a district-wide local holiday on November 28 in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Udupi to participate in the Laksha Kantha Geetha Paaraayana (chanting of the Bhagavad Gita by one lakh voices) organised by the Udupi Paryaya Shriputtige Shree Krishna Mutt.
The MLA stated that the visit marks a moment of pride and celebration for Udupi, as a sitting prime minister (excluding election campaigns) is visiting the district after nearly three decades.

He added that a local holiday would enable the people of Udupi district to take part in the chanting programme without inconvenience.
Considering the security protocols and movement restrictions for vehicles and the general public during the visit, Suvarna urged that all anganwadis, schools, colleges and government offices — excluding emergency and essential services — be declared closed for the day on Friday, November 28. He has submitted a letter to the deputy commissioner requesting the declaration of a one-day general local holiday across the district.
