Mangaluru, Nov 23: A coordinated network operating both locally and from abroad is actively spreading rumours aimed at fuelling hostility between Hindus and Muslims and creating a sense of insecurity within the Muslim community, Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has warned, stressing that the police are monitoring the situation closely and will take strict action against those responsible.
Responding to social media posts alleging that police had raided an organisation’s programme in Moodbidri and inspected its kitchen, the Commissioner said these claims were misleading and had been circulated with malicious intent. He noted that the organisation concerned has already issued a clarification, disproving the rumours.

“For the past ten days, certain individuals have been exaggerating old incidents or routine occurrences, presenting them as major developments and creating false news to spread among the public,” Commissioner Reddy said. “Their sole objective is to provoke communal hatred,” he added.
Highlighting an unexpected twist, he added that the mischief-makers were unaware that secular Hindus and Muslims within their own online groups were providing the police with information and pressing for action against them.
Issuing a firm warning, Commissioner Reddy said the police would investigate such cases thoroughly and initiate appropriate legal proceedings. “We will not tolerate those who attempt to disturb communal harmony through fabricated messages,” he cautioned.
