Kaup: Man dies after falling from express bus in Uchila

Daijiworld Media Network - Kaup

Kaup, Nov 23: A man travelling in a private express bus from Mangaluru to Udupi died after falling out of the vehicle at Uchila on National Highway 66.

The deceased has been identified as Sakendra Poojary, 52, a resident of Kapu Padugrama and an employee of a hotel in Mangaluru.

When the bus reached Uchila, he stood near the front door preparing to alight. At that moment, the driver suddenly swerved the vehicle to the right in a negligent attempt to overtake another vehicle approaching from the opposite direction, causing Sakendra to be thrown out through the door. He sustained severe head injuries after hitting the road divider.

Locals administered first aid, after which social worker Jalaluddin, also known as Jallu Uchila, and SDPI Uchila ambulance driver Hameed shifted him to the district hospital in Udupi. However, he had already breathed his last by then.

Padubidri police have registered a case against the bus driver for negligent driving.

Sakendra, who was unmarried, is survived by a brother and a sister.

Buses have been told to fix doors by the RTO, but still not been implemented. Safety should be given priority first.

Only automatic doors can limit such incidents. The operation button should be under drivers control. As it is in practice in foreign countries.

Exactly. From my personal experience, I have seen most of the bus drivers in Mangalore have become tadipaars ... their behaviour is like ruffians as in a Formula 1 Grand Prix Tournament. They think they should be No. 1 behind the wheels and no one should compete against them and can't be questioned for crazy speeding. There should be a rule where if a passenger complains against the erring driver, the license should be immediately confiscated and should be subjected to suspension which will be an eye opener to all other drivers.

Very sad.Why first of all stand up and stay first. We know how it is by these buses. Here is the example what can happen. No doors back or front .They are playing with lives of elder or childrens lives.File complain by the police against such driving.May his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathies to his family.

Again the issue is not having a door. Even if there is one it will be kept open. If the door was closed, it wouldn't allow the passenger to fall on the road.
