Mangaluru: GFGC, Kavoor host awareness talk on consumer grievance redressal

Mangaluru, Nov 22: As we are living in a fast-changing dynamic world driven by artificial intelligence and other electronic applications, there is every possibility that the consumers will be deceived in one or the other way by the traders. In most of the cases consumers are unaware about their right to seek redressal of their grievances.

In this context, in order to create an awareness about the legal support available for the consumers to resolve their grievances, ‘Jagrathi Consumer Club’ in collaboration with Commerce & Management Association and IQAC of Government First Grade, Kavoor, organised a special guest talk on ‘Consumer Grievance Redressal’ on November 21.

The resource person Dr Roshni Yeshawanth, associate professor of Commerce, Government First Grade College, Kaup explained the different grievances faced by consumers in their day-to-day life while purchasing products. She threw light on major consumer complaints and explained in detail the legal procedure to claim compensation in such situations.

She made a mention of many case studies wherein the consumers managed to receive the compensation many times more than the transaction value. Finally, she insisted that students should exercise their rights as consumers especially ‘Right to Redressal’ in their daily life.

Principal Dr Geetha M L, in her presidential remark explained different consumer related issues by quoting some case studies. Dr Therese Pereira, IQAC coordinator and convenor of Consumer Club, Dr Santhosh Pinto, Student Welfare officer, Jyothi Shetty, convenor of Commerce & Management Association were present on the dais. Sanjana, III BBA compeered the programme, Munab, III BCom welcomed the gathering and Shivani, III BBA proposed vote of thanks.’

After the formal programme ‘Eco-friendly Business Model Making’ competition was held in which a number of teams participated with zeal. The outcome of the competition was a fusion of creativity and enthusiasm of the students which was well appreciated by the judges.
