Washington, Nov 21: In a heart-warming celebration that captured the spirit of dedication and gratitude, an Indian-origin McDonald’s employee in Saugus, Massachusetts, was honoured in grand style after completing an incredible 40 years at the same outlet.

Pargan Singh — fondly known as Balbir — has been a familiar face at the Saugus McDonald’s ever since he moved to the United States decades ago. Recalling his early days, Singh said he began with basic duties in the kitchen, gradually taking up every task that came his way. Within a few months, his sincerity earned him a promotion to swing manager — a position he proudly continues to hold.

Singh’s journey is closely tied to the Wallin family, who have owned the restaurant for years. Current owner Lindsay Wallin, who now manages four McDonald’s outlets, said Singh once worked for her father and has remained a pillar of strength for the organisation. She described him as a committed, dependable presence who employees lovingly call “papa bear.”

To mark his 40-year milestone, staff organised a lavish celebration — complete with a limousine ride, red carpet welcome and a special dinner. The highlight of the evening was a $40,000 (approx. Rs 33 lakh) cheque handed over to Singh as a token of appreciation for his decades of service.

Wallin said the decision to honour him in such a big way came naturally. “He’s committed to the business, committed to his employees. They love him. It was just a no-brainer to go big for him,” she said.

For Singh, the reason behind his long and loyal service is simple and heartfelt: “It’s kind of family… that’s why I’m here so long.”
