Udupi: LMH, LMCON host symposium on essential newborn care

Udupi, Nov 21: CSI Lombard Memorial College of Nursing (LMCON), Udupi, department of obstetrics and gynecological nursing and child health nursing organized a symposium on essential newborn care, at Multipurpose Hall, LMH campus on November 21.

The event was held in collaboration with Society of Midwives of India (Karnataka chapter) and brought together ANMs, LHVs, staff nurses and nursing faculty.

The programme commenced with an invocation by LMCON students, followed by the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp marking the formal inauguration.

Dr Asha Bhat, associate professor and head of the department of OBG nursing at KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research Institute of Nursing Sciences, Belagavi, and general secretary of the Society of Midwives of India, addressed the gathering. She briefed participants on the mission and work of the Society and remarked, “I was introduced to the Society of Midwives of India by former principal Dr Sudha Reddy, where I met a group of people who think deeply about the wellbeing of mother and child. The process of childbirth has changed a lot.”

The inaugural event was followed by an insightful session led by resource persons Dr Guruprasad, consultant paediatrician and neonatologist LMH, Udupi and Sandra Elizabeth, Nursing Officer Government, Hospital, Bhadravthi.

The event was attended by principal of LMCON Udupi Suja Karkada, representative’s from Himalaya Wellness Company, Society of Midwives of India (Karnataka Chapter), participants, students and others.
