Media Release

Dubai, Nov 20: Sangon Mugdana Kalakar (SMK) once again showcased its cultural excellence with the grand success of Kala Festh 2.0, a spectacular celebration of art, music, theatre, and community spirit on the occasion of its 18th anniversary. The much-anticipated event drew a packed audience, creating an unforgettable chapter in the Konkani cultural landscape of the UAE.

Held on November 16, at the Emirates Theater, Jumeirah, Dubai, the historic and widely discussed event was organized by SMK in association with Precious Parties & Entertainment LLC.

The evening commenced with a touching tribute to late Sunil D’Souza and late Vinay Pinto, esteemed members of SMK. Master of ceremony Roshan Dsilva opened the programme with a moving video presentation showcasing SMK’s 18-year journey in Dubai, followed by a solemn prayer.

Organizing member Vernon D’Souza then warmly welcomed the gathering and introduced the distinguished guests of honour Fr Victor Fernandes – assistant parish priest & spiritual director, SMMC/KY, St Mary’s Church Dubai; Fr Henry Mascarenhas – parish priest, Ajekaar; Fr Jerom Monteiro – parish priest, Pernal; Sumesh Nair – commercial director, Globelink West Star Shipping LLC; Walter Nandalike – founder & editor-in-chief, Daijiworld media; Lancy D’Souza – MD, Leyton Shipping LLC; Vishanth Menezes – director, Promat BD Ltd Middle East; Ronald Pinto – MD, Hyssna Group; and Robert D’Souza – MD, INT Electra & Konkan Traders.

Words of encouragement & felicitations

In his address, Walter Nandalike delivered an inspiring message on behalf of the Konkani community, applauding SMK’s commitment to preserving the language, promoting talent, and keeping the cultural flame burning brightly.

A key highlight of the formal segment was the felicitation of Joseph Mathias, recipient of the prestigious Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Rajyotsava Award.

All sponsors were then honoured by the priests for their outstanding support and contribution toward the success of Kala Festh 2.0.

Vibrant performances by Konkan Yuva elevated the evening, with dynamic choreography and electrifying energy delighting the audience.

The show’s biggest attraction was the world premiere of the brand Konkani comedy drama ‘Yenaa Zalyar Vochana’, written and directed by Konkani Comedy Prince Pradeep Barboza Paladka, performed alongside Sangon Mugdana Kalakar.

The laughter-filled drama featured a stellar cast including Paul D’Souza (Paladka), Josly Pinto (Moodbidre), Lavina Fernandes (Pangla), Godwin Castelino (Attur), Diany D’Souza (Pamboor), Roystan Kiran D’Souza (Balkunje), Helvin Barboza (Kulur), Ranjitha Lewis (Sastan), and Vernon D’Souza (Mangaluru).

The performance was further enhanced by the superb background score of Franklin Rodrigues (Siddakatte), whose music perfectly synchronized with every scene. Impeccable technical support was provided by Austin D’Souza (Paladka), Jeethan D’Cunha (Bejai), and Rohan Lobo (Kalakul).

Pradeep Barboza captivated the audience with a fresh and engaging script, sharp comedic dialogues, natural and powerful acting and brilliant direction.

The drama beautifully portrayed the lives of neighbourhood families—hotel owners, a photographer, and a household renting a room to a paying guest—interweaving humour, emotion, and relatable everyday situations. It concluded with a meaningful message on how social media shapes modern life.

Professional sound, lighting, and stage design by Broadway Events & Production added depth, vibrancy, and world-class production value to the show.

The event was proudly supported by Daijiworld.com and NewsKarnataka.com as official media partners.

The collective efforts of organizers, sponsors, artists, partners, and well-wishers—combined with the passion and dedication of the performers—created an evening filled with joy, laughter, nostalgia, and cultural pride.

Kala Festh 2.0 was more than just an event. It was a heartfelt celebration of a community united by art, language, theatre, and tradition. SMK’s unwavering commitment to promoting Konkani culture shone brilliantly throughout the evening, setting new benchmarks for all future cultural festivals.

With cherished memories created, milestones achieved, and spirits uplifted, Kala Festh 2.0 truly turned out to be an event to remember.
