Three attempts, one dream: Riya Saini’s inspiring climb to UPSC rank 22

Daijiworld Media Network – Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh, Nov 20: Riya Saini’s journey from the quiet lanes of Tanda village in Charthaval, Muzaffarnagar, to securing the 22nd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024 is a story of grit, clarity, and relentless ambition. Refusing to settle for anything less than her dream, Riya turned every setback into a stepping stone toward success.

Riya first cracked UPSC in 2023, earning a place in the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in Lucknow. For many, this would have been the end goal—but not for Riya. Her eyes were set firmly on the IAS. With renewed determination, she attempted the exam again, and in her third try, she finally achieved the rank she long dreamed of. She now hopes to be allotted the Uttar Pradesh or Maharashtra cadre.

Hailing from a supportive and academically strong family, Riya had the ideal environment to nurture her ambitions. Her father, Mukesh Kumar, a chief engineer in the Military Engineering Service (MES) posted in Delhi, was once a district topper himself in 1983. Her mother, Preeti Saini, a homemaker, has been her emotional anchor, while her younger brother, Anmol—an intermediate graduate and national-level lawn tennis player—provided constant encouragement.

Riya credits her success to consistency and clarity. She believes aspirants must stay focused on core subjects instead of being overwhelmed by too many options. With an engineering degree and sociology as her optional subject, she methodically prepared for the exam, dedicating 7–8 hours daily with unwavering concentration.

Her mother proudly recalls Riya’s disciplined routine, while relatives, including advocate Praveen Saini, expressed immense joy at her achievement, calling it an honour for the entire district.

Today, as Riya’s results slowly sink in, her story stands as a shining reminder that dreams backed by hard work, patience, and purpose can change the course of one’s life—no matter where it begins.
