Udupi: Two arrested for attempted murder with sword in Hiriadka

Udupi, Nov 19: Police arrested two individuals in connection with an attempted murder case in which a man riding a motorcycle was attacked with a sword within the limits of the Hiriadka police station.

The arrested have been identified as Manjunand Hegde (49) of Kanajaru Parari Mane and Jagadish Hegde (48) of Koppala. Police also seized the iron rod used in the assault. Both accused were produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

On the night of November 15, Shivraj was returning home on his motorcycle after work when Manjunand Hegde allegedly intercepted him at Koppala in Kanajaru village and struck his head with a sword in an attempt to kill him. After Shivraj fell off the bike, Manjunand continued the assault with the sword. It is alleged that Jayand Hegde, Chandrahas Hegde and 7–8 others were also present and attempted to attack him. A case was registered at the Hiriadka police station in this regard.

During the investigation led by PSI Puneeth Kumar, police arrested accused Jagadish Hegde on November 17. Manjunand Hegde, who had admitted himself as an inpatient at Ajjarkad District Hospital after the incident, was arrested on November 18 after police confirmed his discharge, sources said.
