Udupi, Nov 13: The Udupi District Co-operative Union Limited will celebrate the 72nd All India Cooperative Week in Udupi from November 14 to 20.
The Cooperative Week will be observed across the district in collaboration with Karnataka State Cooperative Federation Limited Bengaluru, Udupi District Cooperative Union Limited, Cooperative Department Udupi District, and various cooperative organisations under the theme “Cooperatives as Vehicles for Atmanirbhar Bharat”.


Addressing the media at a press conference on Thursday, November 13, B Jayakar Shetty Indrali, president of Udupi District Cooperative Union Limited and director of Karnataka State Cooperative Federation Limited Bengaluru, said, “Jawaharlal Nehru dedicated his life to the cooperative movement. Therefore, from November 14, Sahakara Saptaha (Cooperative Week) is observed.
During the seven-day celebration across Udupi district, each day will be dedicated to a specific theme. Cooperative leaders, members, dignitaries, and the public are invited to raise awareness about the meaning, significance, principles, and benefits of the cooperative movement.”
The Cooperative Week will be inaugurated on November 14 at Sri Chamundeshwari Auditorium, Sri Durga Cooperative Soudha, Mandarthi, by Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, president of Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Corporation Limited Bengaluru and Dakshina Kannada District Union Cooperative Bank Limited, Mangaluru.
The programme will be presided over by MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi. Other dignitaries attending include B Jayakar Shetty Indrali, H Dhananjaya Shetty (Hereditary Administrator, Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple Mandarthi), H Gangadhar Shetty (president, Mandarthi Service Cooperative Society Limited), K R Lavanya (deputy registrar, Udupi District Cooperative Societies), J Sudheer Kumar (assistant registrar, Cooperative Societies, Kundapura sub-division), and Dr Gananath Yekkar (president, Dr Shivaram Karanth Trust, Karnataka Government), who will be the resource person of the day.
On November 14, the cooperative flag will be hoisted at all institutions across the district, and presidents, directors, and employees of cooperative organisations will sing the cooperative anthem together. Additionally, a sahakara chariot will be flagged off at Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple, Mandarthi, travelling across the district to spread awareness about the cooperative movement to local households.
The Cooperative Week will be celebrated in different taluks of the district, with each day initiated by a different institution. Daily discussions by resource persons on various cooperative topics will also be held.
The valedictory ceremony will take place on November 20 at Odeyaramath Sri Gopalakrishna Kalamandira, Nagoor, at 10:30 am. It will be inaugurated by MLA Gururaj Gantihole and attended by Kirimanjeshwara Annapoorna Udupa (president, Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited), S Prakashchandra Shetty (president, Kambadakone Farmers Cooperative Society Limited, Uppunda), cooperative leader S Raju Poojary, K R Lavanya (deputy registrar, Cooperative Societies, Udupi District), J Sudheer Kumar (assistant registrar, Kundapura division), Shekar Karvi (president, Grama Panchayat Kirimanjeshwara), former Zilla Panchayat member Gowri Devadiga, former Taluk Panchayat member Shyamala Kundar, and Santhosh Shetty, assistant professor, Sridavala College, Moodbidri, as the resource person of the day. B Jayakar Shetty Indrali will preside over the event.
