Washington, Nov 10: US President Donald Trump is set to attend the swearing-in ceremony of his long-time aide Sergio Gor as the new US Ambassador to India on Monday, the White House confirmed in an email on Sunday.
Gor, 38, will officially assume his post in New Delhi shortly after the ceremony, becoming the youngest US ambassador ever appointed to India. A trusted confidant of Trump, Gor previously served as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, overseeing the vetting of thousands of key administration appointments.
Trump announced Gor’s nomination in August on Truth Social, writing, “For the most populous region in the world, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my agenda and help us Make America Great Again. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador.”

The Senate confirmed his nomination in October, and Gor is also expected to serve concurrently as the administration’s special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.
During his confirmation hearing in September, Gor described India as “a strategic partner whose trajectory will shape the region and beyond,” emphasizing the country’s growing global influence. “India’s geographic position, economic growth, and military strength make it a cornerstone of regional stability,” he said, pledging to advance defence cooperation, fair trade, energy security, and technology partnerships.
Gor also underscored his commitment to expanding US–India defence and security collaboration. “I will prioritise joint military exercises, co-development and co-production of defence systems, and critical defence sales,” he told senators.
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September, Gor met Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New York. The US State Department later said both leaders “look forward to further promoting the success of the US–India relationship.”
Following his Senate confirmation, Gor made a four-day visit to India, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior government officials. After their meeting, Gor posted on X, “An honour to be with PM Narendra Modi this evening. Our relationship with India will only strengthen over the months ahead!”
Prime Minister Modi responded warmly, writing, “Glad to receive Mr. Sergio Gor. I am confident that his tenure will further strengthen the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.”
