Beltangady: Herd of 13 wild elephants sighted in Mittabagilu, residents on alert

Beltangady, Nov 9: The presence of a herd of wild elephants in Mittabagilu village has caused concern among the residents. According to locals, a total of 13 elephants, including two calves, have been roaming in the area.

On the evening of November 8, eight elephants, including calves, were spotted in the Malejodi region. Later, they were seen moving through Hindukodi, Amai, Koodala, and Bediguttu areas. Forest officials, along with local residents, managed to drive them away. No crop damage has been reported so far.

The Mittabagilu gram panchayat has already issued warnings to residents, advising them to avoid entering forested areas and to remain cautious.

Meanwhile, an elephant was also spotted near Mulikkaru in Dharmasthala around 4 pm on Saturday. Though no damage was reported, the elephant later moved towards Bolmanaru and Periyadka areas, forest department sources said. Another elephant is also reported to be present in the Paduvu region.
