Mangaluru: SJEC emerges winners in VTU Mangaluru Division Basketball Tournament

Mangaluru, Nov 8: The VTU Mangaluru Division Basketball Tournament for men was hosted by St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor on November 4. The inauguration ceremony of the event was graced by Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director, SJEC; Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta, assistant director, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal and Dr Purushothama Chippar, vice principal, dean R&D. A total of ten teams participated in the tournament, representing various engineering institutions under VTU, Mangalore division.

The participating teams were from St Joseph Engineering College, Canara Engineering College, Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering, Anjuman Institute of Technology and Management, Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Beary’s Institute of Technology, AJ Institute of Engineering and Technology, P A College of Engineering, and Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.

The matches were competitive and showcased excellent talent and sportsmanship. Deon Pramith Saldanha from St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru was awarded Best Shooter, while Mohammed Humaid from Beary’s Institute of Technology, Mangaluru received the best defender award for outstanding performances.

St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru emerged as the winners in the finals, the teams showcased remarkable skill and determination under the guidance of Vaneesha V Rodrigues, Physical Education Director (PED), Sudheer, assistant PED. and Beary’s Institute of Technology, Mangaluru secured the runners-up position.

The event concluded with appreciation for the efforts of all participants and organizers in making the tournament a successful one.
