Karkala, Nov 1: The Christ King Educational Institutions in Karkala celebrated the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava with great enthusiasm and meaningful participation. The chief guest for the occasion was Pundikya Ganapayya Bhat, retired professor and historian from Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “Kannada Rajyotsava is a reflection of our land, language, and thought. The number of Kannadigas who prefer to speak English is increasing. While English is necessary for global awareness, we must preserve and use Kannada among ourselves. Many parents are enrolling their children in English-medium schools due to a lack of teachers in Kannada-medium institutions. However, there are several examples showing that when facilities and quality education are available, parents willingly choose Kannada-medium schools. Even foreigners have contributed immensely to the growth of the Kannada language.”

Presiding over the programme, the institution’s PU College principal Lakshminarayana Kamath remarked, “Our mother tongue is the best medium to freely express our emotions. Kannada stands out among other languages for its unique style and richness. Even if one learns hundreds of languages, one must continue to use their mother tongue in all possible situations except where absolutely necessary.”
The institution’s PU College vice principal Dr Prakash Bhat, High School headmistress Josna Snehalatha, Primary School headmaster Rudolph Kishore Lobo, and administrative officer Kiran Crasta were present on the dais.
On this occasion, students from the PU and High School sections presented group songs evoking pride in Kannada. Primary school teacher Shakeela welcomed the gathering, while Praneetha introduced the guests. High school Kannada teacher Shaili Hegde compered and proposed the vote of thanks.
