Jammu, Oct 27: Security forces foiled a major narcotics smuggling attempt in Jammu district, recovering over 5 kg of heroin dropped by a Pakistani drone. The seized heroin, valued at more than Rs 25 crore, was found near the Jatinder border outpost in the R.S. Pura sector along the International Border (IB).

The joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and J&K Police began around 6 a.m. after a Pakistani drone was spotted hovering over Indian territory. Officials confirmed that two bags containing 10 packets of heroin, weighing a total of 5.3 kg, were recovered, effectively thwarting a significant smuggling attempt.

This operation is part of a broader strategy by security forces to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir, targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathisers. Investigations also focus on drug smuggling and hawala money rackets, which are believed to fund terrorist activities.

J&K features a 740-km Line of Control (LoC) and a 240-km International Border (IB). The Army guards the LoC across districts like Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Poonch, and Rajouri, while the BSF patrols the IB in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua.

Anti-terrorist operations are conducted in the hinterland by J&K Police and security forces, while anti-infiltration and border security operations are carried out by the Army and BSF, ensuring a multi-layered approach to maintain law and order and prevent cross-border criminal activities.
