Kolkata, Oct 25: Three potters were killed in a tragic road accident in West Bengal’s Hooghly district early Saturday morning. The incident took place near Kanajuli under the Gurap police station area on National Highway-19.
Police said the victims were returning to Asansol in a car when it lost control and rammed into the rear of another moving vehicle. The impact was so severe that the car’s front portion was completely crushed, leaving all three occupants critically injured.
Local residents rushed to the spot and began rescue operations before police arrived. The injured were taken to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The deceased have been identified as Divas Mandal (30) of Hingalganj, Kaushik Mandal (28) of Haroa, and Nimai Das (38) of Rabindra Sarobar, all potters by profession.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accident may have occurred after the driver fell asleep at the wheel. “The vehicle was at high speed when it lost control and hit another car. Three people died on the spot. Further investigation is underway,” said a senior Hooghly district police officer.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and the victims’ families have been informed. The accident has cast a pall of gloom over their hometowns.
