Kanpur, Oct 24: In a horrifying case of domestic abuse and dowry harassment, a woman in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, alleges she was forced to abort two pregnancies after they were found to be female and was sexually abused by her father-in-law and brother-in-law.

Mehak Khan, who married Shah Faheed in 2021, said her husband and his family began demanding large sums of money and a car within months of the marriage. When she refused, she was subjected to daily beatings, resulting in serious spinal injuries.

The harassment escalated after she gave birth to a daughter. During her second pregnancy, ultrasounds revealed female fetuses, and Mehak alleges she was coerced into terminating both pregnancies. She further claimed that her mother-in-law and sister-in-law pressured her to have sexual relations with her father-in-law or brother-in-law to produce a male child, and that both men molested and abused her on multiple occasions.

Mehak stated that she and her daughter were brutally beaten and thrown out of the family home recently, with instructions not to return until dowry demands were fulfilled.

Following her complaint, the Kanpur police registered an FIR against seven family members, including her husband, mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law, and the investigation is underway.
