Kolhapur, Oct 18: In a heartwarming incident just ahead of Diwali, Kolhapur Police reunited a missing nine-year-old boy from Hatkanangale with his mother after an anxious few hours. The boy had left home without informing anyone and ended up in Kolhapur city, where the Shahupuri Police found him and ensured his safe return.
According to officials, the boy left his home in Hatkanangale early on Friday morning and reached Kolhapur by hitching rides on passing vehicles. After arriving near Dabholkar Corner, he became disoriented by the crowd and started crying. A police patrol from Shahupuri Police Station noticed the frightened child and immediately approached him to ensure his safety.

Police officers comforted the boy and patiently questioned him to gather details about his home. The child could only mention that he was from Hatkanangale. He was found carrying a smartwatch and charger, which suggested his familiarity with technology. Despite his young age, he remained calm and confidently answered the officers’ questions.
The Shahupuri Police swiftly circulated the boy’s photo on social media and informed the Hatkanangale Police Station. Within a few hours, local residents from Hatkanangale recognised the boy and provided information about his family. Around the same time, his mother, who had returned home from work, discovered that her son was missing. She was soon informed through social media that he was safe at the Shahupuri Police Station in Kolhapur and rushed there immediately.
An emotional scene unfolded when the mother reached the police station and saw her son safe. Both mother and child broke down in tears of relief. City DSP Priya Patil and Inspector Santosh Doke offered sweets to the boy before handing him over to his mother.
The incident has drawn widespread appreciation for the alertness and compassion shown by Shahupuri Police. Their swift action not only prevented a tragedy but also turned Diwali into a moment of joy and gratitude for a mother and her child.
