Udupi, Oct 16: Shirva police have cracked a theft case reported last week from Bantakal village in Shirva, where a large number of metal centering sheets were stolen from near a house.
The arrested person has been identified as Rasheed Moiyuddin (40), a resident of Shiroor village, Byndoor. The theft occurred between October 3 and 6, following which a case was registered at Shirva police station.


During interrogation, police found that Rasheed was involved in several similar thefts across various locations, including Bantakal and Panjimar under Shirva police station limits, Elluru under Padubidri police station limits, and Katbeltur under Kundapur rural police station limits.
Police have seized 300 stolen metal centering sheets and a Mahindra Supro vehicle used in the thefts, together valued at Rs 5.5 lac.
According to police sources, more than 30 theft cases have been registered against the accused across Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, and Uttara Kannada districts. Further investigation is underway.
