Daijiworld Media Network - MuscatMuscat, Oct 16: The second edition of the much-awaited ‘Pepere Pepe Dum’ Brass Band Festival, organized by the cultural group ‘Ami Ani Amchim’, was held in grand style at Al Falaj Hotel, Ruwi, Muscat. The event, which ran from 4 pm to midnight, enthralled music lovers with a packed audience celebrating Konkani music and talent throughout the evening.
Among the four competing teams, ‘Dabak Daba Kalakars’ emerged as the winners, bagging the first prize of 1,000 Omani Rials (approx. Rs 2.3 lac). The other three teams—‘Muscatchim Naktiram’, ‘Gaovchim Motiam’, and ‘Tenkantlim Talentham’—were each awarded 500 Omani Rials (approx. Rs 1.15 lac) as the second prize.
The festival, conceptualized to promote and honour the Brass Band tradition within Konkani music, marked its first-ever international edition on Gulf soil this year. The overwhelming turnout made the venue come alive with energy and enthusiasm.
Over 200 artists from Muscat showcased their musical and dance talents, performing a vibrant mix of Konkani songs, bailas, waltz, jive, and tiger dance—reflecting the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Konkan coast.
In a creative musical innovation, instruments such as the keyboard, bass guitar, and drums were added to the traditional Mangalorean Brass Band for the first time, creating a unique fusion that thrilled the audience and set a new benchmark in Konkani brass music.
Chief guest Ronald Colaco, a prominent NRI entrepreneur, congratulated the ‘Ami Ani Amchim’ team for their efforts in reviving and popularizing Brass Band music. He also lauded the MCCP Muscat team for their professional organization and, in a generous gesture, announced a special prize of Rs 2 lac to the Blue Brass Band, led by Arun Serao, for their outstanding five-hour performance.
Other distinguished guests included Daijiworld Media founder Walter Nandalike, Daijiworld director Alexis Castelino, Fr Stephen Lewis, Fr Sylvester D’Costa (Kelrai Church), and educationist U T Iftikar Fareed, all of whom commended the ‘Pepere Pepe Dum’ team for their exceptional work.
The event was convened, compered, and coordinated by Santosh D’Costa, Neermarga, with support from Reena Castelino and Arun D’Souza, Ajekar. ‘Pepere Pepe Dum – Season 2’ was jointly organized by MCCP Muscat under the leadership of president Lancy Lobo, ‘Ami Ani Amchim’ president Denis D’Silva, and the Venture Entertainment team.
Dilip Correa, proprietor of Sky United Logistics, was the event sponsor, whose generous support contributed greatly to the success of the festival.
Having begun its journey in Mangaluru, ‘Pepere Pepe Dum’ has now proudly stepped onto the international stage, marking a new milestone in Konkani brass band culture. Organizers announced that Season 3 of the festival will be held in Doha, Qatar, on April 17, 2026.
The torch to host the next edition was symbolically handed over to the Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Doha-Qatar, and it was graciously accepted by cultural advisor Reena Castelino and Daijiworld director Alexis Castelino on behalf of MCC founder Jerald D’Mello and president Christine Denzil Lobo. The MCC executive committee expressed confidence that Pepere Pepere Dum – Season 3 will be a grand brass band fest in Qatar.
MCCP executive committee members who played key roles in the success of the event included vice president (finance) Adolf D’Souza, vice president (sports) Ajith D’Costa, general secretary Sylvia Dias, internal auditor Srikanth Coelho, cultural secretary Peter Fernandez, sports secretary Prenita Monteiro, community services secretary Vivet Lasrado, and spiritual secretary Elizabeth Noronha.
MCCP president Lancy Lobo delivered the welcome address, while Ami Ani Amchim president Denis D’Silva and Prenita Monteiro proposed the vote of thanks.
