Sullia student dies after fall while visiting waterfall in Mauritius

Sullia, Oct 14: In a tragic incident abroad, a young student from Sullia lost his life after accidentally slipping and falling while visiting a waterfall in Mauritius.

The deceased has been identified as Nandan S Bhat (25), son of Jayalakshmi of Nadugallu, Kallaje, near Subrahmanya. Nandan was in Mauritius on a student visa, pursuing a diploma in hospitality and tourism.

According to reports, the mishap occurred when Nandan was sightseeing at a waterfall, where he accidentally slipped and fell to his death. His body has been kept at Victoria Hospital in Mauritius.

The incident is said to have taken place on Monday. Nandan’s maternal uncle, Satyanarayana Bhat from Karkala, has appealed to MP Kota Srinivas Poojary to help facilitate the repatriation of the body through both the Mauritian and Indian governments.

Responding to the request, Kota Srinivas Poojary has urged external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar to take necessary action, while Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta has also informed the central government and requested all possible assistance to bring the body back to India.
