Indore, Oct 13: Four people, including a minor, lost their lives and 25 others sustained injuries in a tragic tractor-trolley accident near Chandravatiganj in Sanwer, close to Indore, late on Sunday.
The victims, mostly farm labourers, were returning home from Ratankhedi to their villages of Hariakhedi and Biwikhedi after a day’s work when the overloaded vehicle lost balance and overturned. The sudden crash threw all passengers off the trolley, leading to serious injuries and chaos at the site.
The deceased have been identified as Jankibai (40), Kamla Bai (50), and a minor boy who succumbed to his injuries while being transported for medical treatment. Another death was confirmed later by officials, though the identity is yet to be released. Police said two people are in critical condition and are being shifted to hospitals in Indore for advanced care.

Fifteen ambulances were rushed to the scene as part of the emergency response, and the injured were initially taken to Civil Hospital in Sanwer for treatment. Both government and private hospitals were put on alert to manage the influx of patients.
Authorities suspect overloading may have contributed to the accident, though the exact cause is still under investigation. Tractor-trolleys are widely used in rural India for transporting both goods and people despite safety risks, especially when carrying large groups.
A senior police officer confirmed that around 25 individuals were on the trolley at the time of the accident. “All those seated sustained injuries when the vehicle overturned. We are providing medical support and investigating what led to the crash,” the officer stated.
Local administration has promised assistance to the victims' families, while the community reels from the shock of yet another fatal road accident involving unsafe rural transport practices.
