Pune, Oct 13: The mystery behind a decomposed body found in the Gujar-Nimbalkarwadi area of Katraj, Pune, was solved by Bharati Vidyapeeth police in just 12 hours. Police investigations revealed that the victim was killed by his own friend, who has now been arrested.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Saddam, also known as Salman Sheikh (35, resident of Gujar-Nimbalkarwadi). The accused has been named as his friend Vikram Chaitha Rotiya (32, resident of Sansnagar Malvadi, Nimbalkarwadi). A murder case has been registered against Vikram at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

Both Saddam and Vikram worked as daily wage labourers and shared the same room. Disputes often arose between them over money, and police sources said Saddam used to physically assault Vikram over minor issues. On the day of the incident, an argument escalated into a fight, during which Vikram killed Saddam. He then disposed of the body in an open space at the back of their room and fled the scene.
Police tracked the deceased’s mobile phone, conducted technical investigations, and acted on information provided by a confidential informant, all of which confirmed Vikram’s involvement. The accused was apprehended on Sunday from the Gujarwadi area.
During interrogation, Vikram confessed to the murder. Senior Inspector Rahul Khilare, Assistant Police Inspector Sameer Shende, and Sub-Inspector Nilesh Mokashi were involved in the operation.
