Thane, Oct 12: Train services at Kopar railway station near Dombivli were briefly disrupted on Sunday afternoon following a fatal incident where an unidentified man jumped in front of a speeding express train.

According to officials from the Government Railway Police (GRP), the man, appearing to be around 35 years old, was observed loitering calmly on the platform for some time, carrying a backpack. A GRP officer stated, "He climbed down from the platform and walked toward the eastern side of the station. As an express train from Kalyan approached, he suddenly jumped onto the tracks."

The impact was severe, instantly killing the man and throwing his body several feet away. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and on-duty commandos immediately alerted the GRP. The police arrived, conducted the necessary initial procedures (panchnama), and moved the body to the Shastri Nagar Municipal Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The incident is being treated as an apparent suicide. The police have registered an Accidental Death Report and are working to identify the deceased, checking for a suicide note or any form of identification. Efforts have been launched to trace his family and establish the motive behind this tragic act.

Train movement, which was brought to a brief halt due to the incident, resumed shortly after the tracks were cleared. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
