New Delhi, Oct 12: Union Minister Suresh Gopi announced on Sunday his intention to step down from his ministerial role, recommending BJP’s newly elected Rajya Sabha member C Sadanandan Master as his successor in the central cabinet.
Speaking at a gathering attended by party workers and Sadanandan himself, Gopi hailed the latter’s Rajya Sabha nomination as a landmark moment for northern Kannur politics.
“With all sincerity, I say Sadanandan Master should replace me as a union minister. This will open a new chapter in Kerala’s political history,” Gopi stated.

Currently serving as the Minister of State for Petroleum and Tourism, Gopi expressed hope that Sadanandan’s parliamentary office would soon be elevated to a ministerial position.
The former actor, who joined BJP in October 2016, reflected on his journey as one of the party’s youngest leaders in Kerala. He acknowledged that his ministerial appointment was likely a nod to the public’s support in the Lok Sabha elections.
“I never sought to be a minister by leaving my film career,” Gopi admitted, adding that his earnings have dropped considerably in recent times.
