Hyderabad, Oct 12: Disturbing incidents of violence and tragedy have emerged from Telangana, with police reporting the alleged rape and murder of a tribal woman in Medak district and the suicide of an engineering student in Hanumakonda.
Brutal Assault and Death in Medak
A 33-year-old tribal woman and mother of five has died after being sexually assaulted and brutally attacked in Medak district.
The woman, a daily-wage labourer, had left home for work on Friday. On Saturday morning, local residents found her lying unconscious with a severe head injury under a tree in Kulcharam mandal and alerted the police.

Initially taken to a local hospital, she was referred to a Hyderabad facility but tragically succumbed to her injuries while being transported on Saturday night. Police suspect the woman was gang-raped, and her attackers then used a boulder to strike her head.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman's husband, police have registered a case of rape and murder and launched an investigation. The victim's body has been sent for autopsy, and police are currently examining CCTV footage near the crime scene for potential clues.
Engineering student dies by suicide in Hanumakonda
In a separate, shocking incident, a 19-year-old first-year B.Tech student, J. Keerthana, died by suicide in Hanumakonda district, unable to cope with the stress of her studies.
Keerthana, who was enrolled in a private engineering college in Hyderabad and living in a hostel, reportedly became depressed. She told her parents she was struggling to understand lectures and felt overwhelmed being away from home. Her parents had brought her home to Gopalpur village of Elkathurthy mandal and were planning to enrol her in a different college.
Tragically, her father, Krishnakar, found her hanging at their residence on Saturday while she was home alone. A Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP) declared her dead. Following a complaint from Krishnakar, police have registered a case and sent her body for autopsy. Keerthana was the youngest of three children.
The twin incidents have cast a pall over the state, highlighting serious concerns about women's safety and the immense mental stress faced by students.
