New Delhi, Oct 11: In a move to modernize educational administration and align with the government’s digital transformation goals, the Ministry of Education is encouraging schools nationwide to adopt secure digital payment methods for fee collection. An official announced on Saturday that the Department of School Education and Literacy has issued a letter to States, Union Territories, and other stakeholders promoting the use of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) across schools.
The initiative aims to streamline financial transactions in schools, making processes more transparent, convenient, and efficient for parents and students alike. By shifting from cash to digital payments, the Ministry hopes to reduce the need for physical visits to schools, enhance transparency, and foster greater financial literacy among all stakeholders.

“This initiative will contribute significantly towards realising the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 — a digitally empowered, inclusive, and citizen-centric education system,” the official said.
Autonomous educational bodies such as NCERT, CBSE, KVS, and NVS have also been encouraged to explore mechanisms for collecting admission and examination fees through safe and transparent digital channels.
The Ministry underlined that this transition not only supports the government’s broader Digital India mission but also opens the door for a wider embrace of digital transactions within the education sector.
In a related development on Friday, NITI Aayog recommended the launch of a National AI Talent Mission, aiming to position India as a global hub for Artificial Intelligence workforce development. The recommendation was unveiled during the release of the ‘Roadmap for Job Creation in the AI Economy’ by NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam. The report highlights how AI is transforming India’s technology and customer experience sectors, emphasizing the need for skill-building in this rapidly evolving landscape.
Together, these efforts mark a significant push towards integrating technology in both education administration and the future workforce, signaling India’s commitment to embracing innovation and digital growth.
