Rostov-on-Don, Dec 18: A Ukrainian drone strike targeted a tanker docked at the southern Russian port of Rostov-on-Don on Thursday, causing deaths and injuring several, according to regional governor Yuri Slyusar. The attack damaged the vessel, though authorities confirmed that a major oil spill was prevented.
Mayor Alexander Skriabin reported that emergency teams are extinguishing the fire on the tanker. The strike also caused collateral damage: parts of a high-rise apartment under construction were affected, and two private homes in a nearby town were destroyed.

Slyusar confirmed preliminary reports of crew casualties, while rescue operations continue. The incident escalates tensions amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, highlighting the continued use of drone warfare to target strategic infrastructure in southern Russia.
The strike comes as both sides intensify operations along key logistical and industrial sites, further raising concerns about civilian safety and regional escalation
