Palghar, Oct 8: A 47-year-old woman lost her life after falling off a motorbike that hit a pothole on the Palghar-Manor-Vikramgarh-Jawahar Road in Maharashtra on Monday evening.

The deceased, identified as Anita Patil, was travelling with her husband Anil Patil to their home in Navje village from Palghar district when their bike skidded after hitting a pothole. Both were thrown off the vehicle due to the impact.

Anita suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed during treatment. Her husband escaped with minor injuries.

Police said a case of culpable homicide is being filed against those responsible for the poor road condition. The road reportedly comes under a maintenance contract worth Rs 12 crore.

A similar incident was reported in September when a 55-year-old man, Pratap Naik, lost his life after his scooter slipped into a pothole and he was run over by a tanker near Virar Phata. The incident had sparked public protests, with locals demanding urgent repairs and accountability from road contractors.
