Delta airlines planes collide at LaGuardia airport; wing detaches, one injured

New York, Oct 2: Two Delta Airlines planes collided while taxiing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday night, resulting in one plane’s wing detaching and causing injuries to one person.

The incident occurred around 9:56 p.m. local time, according to reports. Air Traffic Control (ATC) audio indicated that the nose of one aircraft struck the right wing of the other while both jets were taxiing. Pilots reported damage to their windshields.

Video footage circulating on social media, reportedly shot from inside a nearby plane, showed emergency vehicle lights flashing on the tarmac and visible damage to one jet’s wing.

According to CBS News, one of their producers was aboard flight DL5047 from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The plane’s wing was struck by another Delta regional jet during taxiing, causing the wing to break off.

Delta Airlines has not issued a statement regarding the incident at the time of reporting.

The accident adds to a series of recent safety concerns at LaGuardia. In March, a Delta plane’s wing struck the runway during a landing attempt, prompting a go-around and triggering a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) investigation.

Authorities continue to investigate the collision, while airport operations resumed following emergency response procedures.
