Bomb hoax triggers panic at BITS Pilani Goa campus

Sancoale, Sep 26: Panic swept the BITS Pilani campus in Sancoale on Thursday morning after an anonymous email warned of a bomb, prompting the evacuation of nearly 4,500 students and a massive security response.

The threat email, received around 10.15 am, claimed an explosive would detonate at 2.30 pm. The institute immediately alerted police, who deployed the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, dog squad, fire services and local police to conduct a thorough search.

Security teams combed the entire campus through the afternoon but found no explosive. Authorities confirmed that students and staff were safe and normalcy returned by late afternoon, though the hoax caused considerable anxiety.

Police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the email and urged students and faculty to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.

This marks the second such scare at the Sancoale campus in seven months; on February 7 this year, a similar email threat also proved to be a hoax.
