Goa, Sep 26: Every year, Fr Agnel Higher Secondary School, Pilar, Goa, in collaboration with the Solidarity Forum, Pilar, celebrates Sadhbhavna Diwas to spread the message of peace and harmony. Recently, in mid-September, it was celebrated with similar zest and enthusiasm. The entire school community, numbering almost 600, including students and teachers, was present for the programme. The programme focused on the theme of addressing growing intolerance and fostering interreligious harmony.

Sadhbhavna, which translates to "Good Will and Harmony," reflects Rajiv Gandhi’s vision for a nation where people of various religions and cultures coexist with mutual respect and empathy. The celebration aimed to inspire young Indians to contribute toward building a modern and inclusive society.

The keynote address was delivered by Jisha Ponnachan, who shared compelling anecdotes and observations, highlighting the common threads that unite humanity. Her engaging storytelling left a lasting impression on the audience, reminding them of the beauty of diverse spiritual journeys.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by Maclean Jonah D’Souza, who introduced the dignitaries. The auspicious lighting of the lamp involved Fr Jerry Vaz, principal of Fr Agnel Higher Secondary School; Jisha Ponnachan, assistant professor at Fr Agnel College of Arts and Commerce; Pachu Menon, a prominent columnist and writer; Dr Fr Elvis Fernandes, the convenor of the Solidarity Forum; Manoja Walke from the vocational stream; and student representative Saif Malik of XII BI.

The ceremony was marked by a moment of prayer led by Dr Fr Elvis Fernandes, accompanied by the peace mantra "Sarvesham Svastir Bhavatu."

Pachu Menon delivered a poignant speech reflecting on his experiences and the importance of communal harmony. Following him, Pooja Chodankar of XI commerce presented a heartfelt monologue that resonated with the audience.

The students of XI arts moved the audience with a beautiful rendition of "Tu Hi Ram Hai, Tu Hi Rahim Hai," a song emphasizing spiritual unity and mutual respect across different religions.

Three students, Naziya Sali (XI science), Nitee Priolkar (XII arts), and Shivani Das (XI arts), shared personal experiences related to interfaith interactions, fostering a sense of connection among attendees.

An outstanding Hindi skit performed by the brothers of the Pilar Society conveyed a powerful message of unity and the importance of recognizing shared humanity, transcending religious differences.

Fr Jerry Vaz, principal of the school, addressed the audience, sharing his vision for fostering goodwill and harmony in the community, which was well-received with thunderous applause.

The event concluded with a token of appreciation presented to the guests by Fr Jerry, followed by the national anthem sung by the students.

Fermina Dias proposed a vote of thanks, wrapping up an inspiring and thought-provoking celebration that emphasized the need for compassion and understanding in today’s world.
