Chandrapur, Sep 24: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched an inquiry against two postal department officials for allegedly misappropriating Rs 15.95 lac from 20 recurring deposit (RD) accounts of the Branch Office at Govindpur in Chandrapur Division.
According to CBI sources, a written complaint was lodged by S Ramakrishna, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Chandrapur, accusing a sub-post master of Allapalli Sub Post Office and another official from the Govindpur branch of siphoning off the funds.

Preliminary findings indicate that between 2018 and 2022, the accused officials conspired to forge withdrawal slips bearing false signatures of RD account holders. They allegedly processed fake loans, pre-closures and closures of RD accounts, diverting the withdrawn money either into the savings accounts of depositors or collecting it in cash.
“They made fraudulent entries in the records of the sub-post office and branch office, and in the department’s software, thereby causing wrongful gain to themselves and corresponding loss to the postal department,” a CBI official said.
The agency has registered a case under charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust by a public servant, forgery of valuable security, cheating, and misappropriation of government funds. The investigation is underway.
