Mumbai, Sep 19: Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch on Friday arrested two men from Powai for allegedly tampering with mobile phone IMEI numbers, officials said.

The accused were identified as Ramprasad Sargun Rajbhar (37) and Gulam Rasool Rashid Khan, a mobile shop owner and technician from Powai. Acting on a tip-off, Unit 6 of the Crime Branch raided their shop and found they were using an “App Unlock Tool” via Google Chrome to alter IMEI numbers.

During questioning, police confirmed the duo’s involvement in the illegal practice. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After a medical examination, both were produced before a Mumbai court.

“We have seized forged and suspicious second-hand mobile phones,” said a Crime Branch officer.

The raid was supervised by Police Inspector Bharat Ghone of Unit 6 in Chembur, with further investigation led by Police Inspector Sushant Sawant’s team.
